I'm stumped! Blueprints won't open with the rest of the level

I’m brand new to Unreal, and I’m following along with an official tutorial. When I open the level none of the blueprints load. For instance, instead of buttons on the ground, I see this:

Any idea how I can get them to load?

Hey @Mosquit0Hawk!

Did you try running the game? They might only appear on run.

Also can you link the tutorial?

By “run” do you mean play? When I hit the play button I get this error message:

The tutorial I am working with is “Your First Hour in Unreal Engine”

Oh, and then when I click cancel, I get this message:

Thank you for helping me figure this out! I really appreciate it!

Hey again @Mosquit0Hawk! Quick couple of questions.

Are you doing this on UE 5.0? This hasn’t been updated for 5.1, so you definitely need to avoid using the wrong version, especially on Mac.

The other question is: did you make sure to click “No” here?

Hi!

I am using 5.0.3.

I don’t recall seeing that dialogue at all. So I don’t think I hit no.

Hey again @Mosquit0Hawk!

Now that I look at it this isn’t the one I usually point people to. Since this is just a “get in and click around” tutorial, I suggest this one usually. It has all of that and actually gets you into the meat of things a little bit  I don’t know what’s going on there but it looks like some things went very wrong. Give this one a try! I get a lot of positive feedback from it

OK. Thanks for advice.

Hi Mind-Brain,

I’m trying to do the tutorial you suggested, but I didn’t get very far. In it, he opens a “Blank” project and it looks like this:

I open a blank project and it looks like this:

Any idea why that would be? Have I done something wrong?

Thanks!

Hey @Mosquit0Hawk!

So part of the issue here is just version. You’re on mac and they’re on windows so things are just slightly different in terms of startup default. To get where they’re at, you can make your own level just like theirs! Just follow these steps:

First, in your content browser, click on your settings, and check “Engine Content” to see things that are part of the engine but not necessarily your project (you don’t want to change things in that folder)

Next, you’ll navigate to Engine → Content → Maps → Templates.

Then, you’ll right click the “OpenWorld” map (which is, on windows current version, the default blank map) and select “New Blueprint…”

After that, just name the map what you’d like and place it where you deem fit! Make sure not to put it in the “Engine” folder ANYWHERE. My suggestion is:

All → Content → Maps

Hope that helps!

Ah, got it. It’s because I’m on a Mac. How unfortunate.

I don’t know if this is also because I’m on a mac, but when I right-click on OpenWorld it doesn’t give me the “new blueprint” option. Is there another way to do it?

Thanks for your help.

Alex

Hey @Mosquit0Hawk! Sorry for the late reply!

Can you show me what options it gives you? There has to be some sort of option, it’s probably just called something similar!
