IK Retargeting sockets and attachments?

So I have an IK Retargeting setup in place, with two skeletal meshes on the character that I’ll call the animation mesh (AM) and the rendering mesh (RM).

I spawn and socket actors to AM, which results in RM running around with the new actor at an offset to the hand, floating in roughly the right place but not quite.

Both AM and RM have sockets of the same name. As far as I can see you can’t IK retarget sockets. Attempting to socket items onto RM results in the new actor floating at the actor’s root instead.

So, how do I spawn and socket actors onto the mesh actually rendered, instead of the one running the animations?
