Using UE5.1.1, I am retargeting animations to the character contained in the Unreal Learning Kit Games.
Sources are some animations from Mixamo (using xBot) and from the Animation Starter Pack.
Retargeted Animations from my Mixamo XBot character look ok (apart from some fine tuning needed).
But retargeting from the AnimStarterpack shows weird offsets for the hands.
Some animations show this on the left, some on the right hand, some do not have obvious problems. But always, it looks like only the hands are affected.
I rechecked my IK Rigs several times. I did create my IK rigs from scratch for all 3 skeletal meshes, simple rigs with no solvers, no ik stuff.
After having no idea any more, I tried to play with the good old Translation retargeting settings in the skeletons and changed these, one, the other or both as was usually shown in UE4 retarget tutorials:
All non shown bones are set to Skeleton.
BTW:
The original settings in the assets after importing them:
- Mannequin from Animation Starter Pack: Root, IKs and Pelvis = Animation, Spine01 and all others = Skeleton.
- Epic-character from learning kit: All = Animation
Interesting is, that none of these changes does affect the result at all.
- Does anyone have an idea, what else could cause the problem with the hands?
- For the pure offline retargeting process to create new animation assets - are the Translation Regargeting Settings no longer needed?
- Is my understanding correct, that I do not need any IK Solver/targets in my IK-Rigs, if just doing offine retargeting to create new animation assets?
Thank you for getting some insight into this.
