Hi there,
I know that there are several threads out there about this topic, but since there’s no actual reaction from Epic about this actually serious issue with the IK Retargeter, I thought I should also start a thread about it, just to refresh the attention for this topic. I can’t for the life of me understand how on the one hand you completely removed the entire Retarget Manager from UE5, and on the other hand the IK Retargeter doesn’t retarget the IK Bones correctly even though you called it exactly that: IK Retargeter.
The IK Retargeter does not retarget (Foot) IK Bones properly from UE4 Mannequin to UE5 Mannequin using the IK Retargeter.
I have demonstrated this for you:
First I tried to retarget a custom Animation, and then I tried to retarget the UE4 Mannequin Jog Animation which comes with the default Third Person Template in UE5.
Both Animations show the same problem: IK Bones have an offset which results in the IK not working properly. The UE5 Manny is then floating over the ground. I know this can be fixed with the Control Rig by just setting the transform of the IK Bones to the transform of the foot bones, but the original problem still persists.
It could also be that I am just completely stupid and simply overlooking something, but I have tried a lot and rummaged through just about every forum thread, tried different approaches and nothing has brought the desired result. At the end I found myself editing the FK Rig with Sequencer and snapping IK Foot Bones to the Foot Bones, which also does not give me the desired result (rotations are broken).
Even your own tutorial does not address the original IK problem that arises when retargeting. Instead, the transforms of the Foot IK Bones are simply snapped to the transforms of the Foot Bones at Runtime in Control Rig. This is a nice fix, but it doesn’t solve the original problem one bit.
