IGN covered my Blueprint-only multiplayer game ShapeRockets!

Hey folks! This is a fun win for the indie community and Unreal 4 - especially those of us that would prefer to never touch a line of code! I made ShapeRockets 100% in Blueprints. IGN reached out to me to do a developer walkthrough since I worked on high profile titles in the past. I’m not sure how much traction the story will get since it’s a pretty niche FPS, but there is at least some light on a UE4 Blueprint-only game. I hope it encourages the community to keep at it!

Salutations EchoHeadMatt,

Just finished the video, this is really cool!
Congratulations on the new game; also on such a well composed video.

Edit: Love the Death shape character, getting to play even after you’ve died so it doesn’t get boring.

Cool news, and congratulations.

Thanks folks! I’m thankful we have something as prolific as Blueprints to ship titles. I hope more designers-at-heart start to make games without the worry of not knowing code!

Congratz bro, hoping to hop on the blueprints train soon.

Blueprints are the way of the future for sure. It gives imaginative artistic people an open doorway to game creation. With blueprints the possibilities in gameplay are completely up to the extent of the devs imagination.

Visual Scripting is definitely a big plus for designers in general. And I’m excited to see more and more code exposed through Blueprints as UE4 continues to mature!

The thing is you can download unreal and have say a customized physics based flight model in hours. Completely new users can do in a day what would have previously taken a team of trained programmers years, that kind of optimization in workflow is revolutionary. It opens up the front door to developing to the entire world. From that new users can generate innovative game mechanics that can be used globally, this is where the true potential lies. Every teenager geeking out in their basement is now a few hours from creating new ideas.

Very cool game!

Wow, thanks !

Awesome, congrats! =)

Congrats EchoHeadMatt. ShapeRockets looks like fun and the minimalist approach is concealing some complex design. Rock-Paper-Scissors is a great way to balance a game. In fact, I’m designing the Elemental Magic in my Action RPG around the concept of Roshambo.

Yes, Blueprints Rock! (Paper! Scissors!). I coded for years, but, really *enjoy *stringing Blueprints together and haven’t one line of code working with UE4. I cannot wait for the day when Blueprints goes 3D and you can embed media: videos, audio, images directly into them.

Good Luck to ShapeRockets!
