With the large influx of new faces since UE4 went free - a number which I, personally, think will only keep growing, I figured it would be useful to compile a list of persons willing to act as go-to people for quick questions, discussions and help via live communication means such as Tox, Skype, Email and the like.
A list like this would allow new people to quickly find a “mentor” to lean on and ask for advice when they feel the need to. Having someone to bounce ideas and problems with has, for me, always been a wonderful asset in my learning process. Even just a pat on the shoulder or someone who’s as dumbfounded as you are can be a godsend from time to time.
Do you, dear and wonderful Epic community, think this could be a good idea? If you do, and wish to participate, fill out what I have below with your own information. No matter the response to this, I am available in the manner described above If this list does grow, it may be prudent to move it to another forum such as Community Content.
Name: Gullberg
Description: I’m an Unreal Engine 4 enthusiast and jack of most trades. I program, design and adapt.
My primary strengths are solving or finding solutions to problems (both generic and programming), structuring and designing systems, and adapting existing assets and features to a new format. I’ve previously created a D&D-style homebrew with an accompanying story, a branching dialogue system (which is waiting on Marketplace C++) and a UE4-compatible game launcher. I enjoy ARPGS such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age, as well as arty games and puzzlers.
My primary weaknesses are drawing and modelling. My brain and my hands do not agree on how things are supposed to look.
I am presently unemployed and studying, and as such I have a lot of time on my hands.
Alas, anyone being mentored by me would probably have to teach me a large amount of Unreal first. My art is weak, and my curiousity is mostly piqued by NPC AI.
But I definitely applaud anyone preparing to welcome new visitors with open arms. Nice one, Jargon.
When you have questions, just post them into the forum or answerhub. We are always here to help! Otherwise you guys can add me in skype () -> but currently it could take a while till I answer, because of the insane amount of questions
Darkhog and , you’re both absolutely right when it comes to “larger” questions. My intention was to give new people who feel lost someone they could shoot a quick question, discuss something or just talk the engine for a bit with without having to make an answerhub or forum post.
While it would be really helpful I’m sure, I think it would benefit more people if the questions were asked in the forum or answer hub, that way more people can take part of the information and help provided.
That said, just feel free to ask anything, most of us are here to help the new(and old) people!
Yep, its better when you also do that in the forum, because then people with the same question also know the solution, but as I mentioned, everybody can add me in Skype do dicuss stuff
Also make sure to check out the skype groups:
I think the IRC channel is perfect for that. Lots of new people have been popping in recently and there are always people around to help.
EDIT: That is for quick questions. Otherwise I agree with , posting on the forums and answerhub will leave a trace for someone bumping into the same issue later on.
As says, skype is great and there are several skype groups for active developers that I think should be taken advantage of by new people (honestly the chats will rock ur socks off).
