We’re building a trading card app/game that will allow users to create trading cards using drag and drop.
It will have icons and images we create + icons we purchase from marketplace.
User can essentially drag and drop the creation of a custom trading card so they can share it with friends or sell printed copy of the card. (They cannot sell the derived digital image just a printed copy).
two questions.
Can users print the trading cards and use them for personal use if they contain an icon/image from unreal marketplace.
. Can users print the trading cards and use them for commercial use if they contain an icon/image from unreal marketplace. (Note: Printed card only for resale purposes). I’ve read through the marketplace licensing and cannot find a specific clause that indicates printing is not allowed.
When contacting the relevant icon owners on marketplace i’m getting a mixed bag of yes and no’s and need to understand from unreal marketplace licensing team what the T&C’s allow in this regard.
Assuming they don’t enable functionality within the application itself (think amiibos), printed trading cards are considered “Unrestricted Products” under the EULA, which have no restrictions on distribution.
But isn’t dragging and dropping icons and images inside the app to build the final trading card considered enabling the functionality as without the images the trading card builder app could not exist?
How should we approach a seller of content on marketplace who won’t agree to let us use their content for such purposes? When we asked them the question above the replied that we could not use their content for a trading card app and they will not allow our users to print the final trading card for personal or commercial use if we did proceed with building the trading card builder app with unreal engine and marketplace content.
Here is a link to the question to one of your content sellers , selling designs for trading card game:
I asked to use the content for such purposes and they responded with a “no”
I asked the same question on some of their other content on marketplace and they also said “no”
Appreciate your guidance.
