I successfully replaced Maya with Unreal Engine as my animation tool

This is the first truly intricate animation that I created using Unreal Engine’s control rig instead of Maya. The character and weapon are animated separately and it’s possible to export animations out for both the weapon skeletal mesh and the Character.

It’s been quite the journey and there are still some limitations and bugs in Unreal 5.0.2 to work around, but this proves it’s possible to replace Maya’s ART tool completely. I managed to use some extra control rig controls on the character to create Space switching “Spaces” in which the gun and magazine and charging handle animate.

I’ll probably do a more detailed breakdown later since this was actually really complicated considering I was working with 2 independent control rigs, and there are still some limitations in UE5 I’d love to be fixed so work is even easier. Especially around space switching across two rigs.

to speed up go mass production process you can record movements from your VR headset and give it a quick fix to remove blemishes if you have to do a lot of animations of various characters is wrot spend time to setup

We do also have a mocap suit. That requires quite a bit of cleanup too. Making weapon reload animations to me is ideal by hand because there are so many moving parts on the gun where hands have to perfectly align but something like a walk animation or a character punching is probably better in mocap.

mocap suit to work well real time it requires a ridiculous amount of cameras whit a surgically positioning of the cameras too expensive too bulky too ridiculous and to handle is a mess

if you put 4 sensors rift 1 in front and the headset as a hat over the head leaving the face visible whit iphone in front for the facereconition which makes a pretty decent real time for a top body whit some program to change voice you can record entire sequences of the story fingers movements suck hard xD rift 1 dont make mirakels with basic settings from me a programingincompetent is work grate

with this setup the only problem is the fingers if you find a solution for fingers compatible with rift 1 let me know it’s like the holy grail for me!!!
