I really need help - what to build where?

I have searched everywhere and I get so many mixed answers.

I am new to UE and I want to build a VR replication of my property up north. Grass hills, cabin, barn, forest. Mainly used to see what a renovation might look like.

I always thought it was build all your assets in Blender and then put them together in UE. Is this still true? Can everything be done in UE?

Any good starting points? I figured the tutorials here and then YouTube.

Thanks!

You still need to model things in a separate program like Blender, the modeling tools in UE4 are really basic and aren’t for the purpose of making full high detail meshes.

It sounds like something you could create in TwinMotion, might be worth looking into?

Ok great, so if I want a realistic tree or something, I would create in blender, animate it in Blender and Texture there and then import it in to UE?

Well this looks like exactly what I could use. My only fear is what happens after November? And I really should learn UE as I think there is a ton of value. I will still check it out though!

Thanks guys. Anyone have an guidance on resources or where I should be starting? Or best just to dive in and play around?

Realistic trees can be pretty tricky to make, I’d probably recommend purchasing some nice ones from the UE4 market place… If you want to make some yourself a lot of people use SpeedTree… TreeIt is also a pretty cool free tool…

You also don’t have to animate trees in an external modelling package (if you mean for wind sway), you can implement wind sway for trees and foliage inside UE4 using a materials WorldOffsetPosition and a Wind node

You might also want to look at a tool like 3Ds Max, it’s similar to Blender, just another option…
