I signed up with Megascans due to their current content being free. I cannot find a straight answer no matter where I look: Epic Games, Unreal Engine, Quixel, Reddit, Google, etc. Even signed up as a FAB member. The whole Quixel to Fab migration is nothing but legalese with no definitive answer and I am at a crossroads. I know Bridge will be sunset and Quixel will be merged into FAB. All the FREE assets I have acquired at Quixel with that account I am reading such conflicting answers about whether they will come over to FAB and still be accessible from my account there, they have to be manually migrated, as well as having heard we need to download before it shuts down.
Can someone PLEASE tell yes or noâas I have already downloaded almost 1TB of my acquired assets and need to purchase a much larger HDD or set up a NAS box if they are not going to remain accessible over on FAB. It seems rather odd that the FAQs on both sides remain unclear and the forums everywhere cannot seem to come to a consensus. Will FAB replace Bridge with their own application and we can access our acquired assets or do we truly need to get a bunch of storage so as not to lose what we have acquired?
I ran the script to add all of the items that are no free at Quixel to my account and have been sneaking bandwidth from work and bringing home what I downloaded. I am out of storage space on my PC.
I need to know if there is a way to get my acquired assets to show in my FAB account as my assets and be accessible from there when Quixel shuts down and Bridge goes away.
Hi @QCvgC1517 . You will continue to be able to access past Megascans acquisitions via Quixel.com and Bridge until theyâre shut down at some point in the future (probably 2025 or beyond).
Whether your acquisitions will show up on Fab depends on whether you acquired them under a paid Quixel subscription. If you did, theyâll show up on Fab. If you didnât, they wonât.
When Fab launches, youâll be able to easily claim Fabâs Megascans library for free.
OK. Thank you. I really appreciate the straight forward answer. One question I have left is the collection in the FAB Market place, do they contain the entirety of quixel megascans or are they only a partial cataog? Also, as I have not used unreal engine, are they able to be exported at the full 8K resolution as they are at Quixel?
I expected a lot more, may I ask at which quality they were downloaded?
Also Iâm not sure if the old Marketplace included all the Megascans from Quixel, both for you and for me I think itâs better to confirm this, unless youâre 100% sure.
There was a script that removed the âDownloadâ process, Iâm quite sure that the âDownloadâ thing was just something that naturally was existant due to there not being a dedicated button for adding a megascan to your library (as there was not much need for that until now).
I donât know, though. They specifically mentioned that for downloading, there was a time limit until 2025, so apparently there is still a division between claiming and downloading. This really is more confusing than it should.
And about this, I thought those assets that were on the old Marketplace didnât need anything else than just being claimed. The fact that is in the Vault, isnât enough to use them at any moment, even if theyâre not in Quixel?
Hey there! Our FAQ located here addresses this topic:
From Fabâs launch until the end of 2024, you can get Megascans for free under Fabâs Standard License (claim them all with one click). Any Megascans that you claim during this promotional period you will be entitled to use for free even after this promotion ends.
However, in that same website, there is this phrase:
âPlease note that Quixel.com and Bridge will eventually be sunset. When that happens, if you wish to have continued access to those assets, we recommend that you download them onto a local disk so that you can continue to use them.â.
One possible way to interpret it, taking also this into consideration (and multiple comments of âdownloadingâ needs):
âYou will be able to access past acquisitions through the Purchased/Acquired tab on Quixel.com or Bridge until those apps are sunset. We will alert you in advance of any changes.â,
is that this last sentence refers to the cases of:
Unclaimed Megascans through the one-click operation to claim them
The nearly 1000 assets that werenât migrated to Fab
But honestly, there is such a difference in terms of what we should do (from not buying storage to maybe needing 16TB, or even more), that we really need a definitive answer.
This doesnt answer much tbh, the content library on FAB says owned but the wording is still very confusing without definitive anything. Will we get access to these assets after 2024 if we use the tool to âownâ them or will they be removed from the Quizel profile for us and replaced with a buy button. Is the only way to keep these assets to download them now since you plan on taking away access to them after 2024?
Nothing online answers this and its really disappointing.
This is still very unclear. For about 1 minute there was a button available for quixel âfreeâ megascans to âadd to my libraryâ, but within about 2 minutes it disappeared. You have this âDownloadâ button but no where do you have the ability to add to your fab library. I went into the coding and it seems that there is a script that is being ran currently to not allow us to add to our library. There is also very vague responses from Fab about what exactly does âclaimingâ the entire megscans library mean.
The wording suggests you click that button and are capable of downloading whatever you want, until the end of 2024, then the âclaimâ period is over and you will have to pay for whatever you claimed to add to said library.
I think the launch of Fab was too soon, they should of had their program to replace bridge already in place, importing these files from Fab into bridge is a massive pain in the â â â . This just seems like one big fail of a transition.
I believe my response below that I just sent another thread should answer most of the questions asked here:
" *By selecting the âClaim Allâ option, you gain entitlement to the Megascans assets. You can choose to add them to your library or download them later. The âClaim Allâ step ensures you are entitled to use the assets beyond 2024, in accordance with the Fab Standard License agreement. To verify your entitlement, simply click on any asset after the âClaim Allâ step, and it will indicate âYou own the item.â
Weâre working on a solution to add all Megascans to your Fab library and allow you to easily manage them.*
Thanks for answering @Yasir1986.
May I ask the difference between owning them, and having them in the library? Is the library the same as the Vault? Does it have any consequence in terms of access to assets later, license, or anything at all? Is it just for organization?
Thatâs correct! The library is designed to help you sort and organize the assets you own. Thereâs no difference in terms of access, as with the âClaim Allâ step, you own all the Megascans.
I work for a creative agency with revenues over $100,000. I understand the assets being made available for free on fab at the moment are granted under the âStandard Licenseâ. Thereâs no lisence tier dropdown to select. Do I want to know if either the personal or professional âlisence tiersâ apply to the content I download? Will I be able to use these âfreeâ assets on commercial / client projects?
Thank you for jumping on here to answer, but I still want to clarify something. After I used the current tool that was supposed to add the entire current Megascans library to my account, they still donât show in my library, I still have to go one by one in to add them to my library.
Is the claim all tool only for âdownload accessâ until the end of 2024 or is it possible for us to download these assets after currently claiming them beyond 2024? The confusion is in whether or not the access is only for downloading now before the end of the year or if we will have access to the library later too if we claim now.
And if its only for download, do we have to go through the assets one by one to âadd them to our libraryâ to access them in 2025 and beyond without having to download them before the end of the year?
