Lanterns were modelled and textured in Blender. Particle systems were a combination of Niagara particle systems for the background assets and animated Blueprint actors for the foreground lanterns.

Your Sky Lanterns are absolutely breathtaking! You certainly have the Midas Touch with your projects!
It reminds me of loved ones past. If we all lit lanterns and released them in memoriam, we’d fill the vastness of the night sky! The music you’ve chosen for this project is an entire mood!
Did you already have it in mind to use particle systems for this effect, or did you discover it upon trial and error?
