I’ve posted on this project before and am getting closer to starting.
Background: I am building a kids Space capsule for my granddaughters, it features a cockpit you sit in with lots of educational space related screens/games plus many buttons, flashing lights and sound effects etc. This spaceship has three cut-out windows that look onto a 60” LCD TV.
The problem I have is finding suitable visuals to display on the LCD TV. I’m currently just looping some video clips. What I ideally would like is an animation that can be controlled via a joystick (currently have a Logitech Extreme Pro) as you travel around in space between planets and stars. PC based would be good but can deal with any platform.
Given this is a long term space capsule design project for the grandkids (bit over the top really) and the fact that my skills base in animation is novice - over the past several months I have managed to make my first planet in UE4 only! But to create the environment needed I would still have a big learning curve for a one off. My background is electronics and computing (and have a good workshop) so certainly could get there… But time could be better spent on the making of the capsule and all its bells and whistles. Would anyone be interested in taking the visual design work on as a project??? Happy to discuss payment arrangements and I don’t need to own the work! just have a working copy. Still seems it could be a good teach tool despite the fact that VR is taking over as a teaching concept in this area. I feel this has a better result and suits the sit in space capsule idea well. This previous project Cubby Caravan Completed (including an Intro) Dec 2020 - YouTube I completed last year and the Space Capsule will be large and along the same build standard, hence I want something suitable to enhance the total experience and open to grow as the grandkids get older. Luckily, the solar system will be same! so the view being controlled out the capsule viewing windows the same…

I have also looked at this little clip ”Space simulator for kids” by Elif Ozyildiz (Space simulator for kids - YouTube) is the sort of thing I’m hunting for (but with traveling around the planets only and no voice – just space music).
Again, it is only joystick control of moving around in the solar system that is needed…. No characters as such or shooting objects etc. Just a controllable (up/down/left/right and forward/backwards stick speed control in an endless loop concept.
