I’m looking for game assets for a new game I’m building of very old ships and ports in 4K quality for free
I’d appreciate some help…

You can use the array of filters and toggles on Fab in order to isolate any assets that meet your criteria. It might also be worth checking out the Limited-Time Free listings, routinely, to see if there is anything that you can use in your game development journey.

Luckily, if you do have to end up making your own assets, this is a great engine to be involved with. The ports should be relatively easily done in bsp or imported meshes. The ships may be a lot harder to model, depending on your skill level, I’d certainly look to Google strings for any hull I could find out there as they are niche and probably scarce. I’m new back to UE after 10 years myself so any repositories I have in mind have long dried up. I do suggest asset torrents though, if that network still exists these days. You could get just about everything especially on the old Russian sites, and probably some illegal too though, there used to be a complete mix of all kinds of assets.

I’ve been far from exhaustive on Fab and there are nice free high quality assets there I’d personally use for this, I saw a lighthouse there free, a few suitable fences, a lot of debris, street signs, various coastal objects. Those free high resolution rocks are just the ticket too, use one or a small set and resize, rotate and use again.

If you’re looking to just have the port water as the playground, you should consider setting up a skybox with landscapes and free fab castle objects in that for a far off view. With use you’ll find your preferred methods. That will never make it authentic though, I suggest bsp modelling for that with building assets some from Fab.

Another thing is how helpful AI can be with what you are looking for. For a good free chat AI, try duck.ai it has a valuable toolbar on the left that you can retrieve old sessions with.

Ships are fairly static. If you can get away with using old photographs of ships in the background, you’ll sail it with the realism, it depends how old you are going, Before 1900 and there won’t be many photos to draw from. However, I’ve seen other older vessels as assets before but always of varying quality and design.
