I have friends on the game but even when they are playing on the game they are not showing online anyone able to tell me why this happening

I have friends playing Fortnite that are on my friends list but for some reason they never show up as online even when we are in the same room and i know they are. I have been through all privacy setting but still no luck. Anyone got any ideas why this could be. We are all playing through epic games
