I have an error in my project and it won't let me open it because it crashes, I have no idea what's wrong, I have tried everything and everything fails, please I need help desperately.

This is terrifying.

You have no backups at all?

I’ll be watching, because I have experienced an issue like this, myself, but I always ZIP backups.

You can ZIP your project to prevent any loss of data or corruption.

Just this has been the only time I have not done something like this, it seems to migrate the project to aunreal 5 but I do not care because it is a very unstable version, I tried to migrate all the content from the new project from unreal 5 to 4 and it does not seem to migrate any file when I do it, I am devastated.

Hey @VisceralError!

It looks like your uploaded screenshot wasn’t done when you hit submit, creating a broken link. Try editing your post, deleting that text there, and uploading your visual again!

thanks for the message ! I’ll put the image here as well

Hey @VisceralError, thanks for fixing that!

I don’t fully understand what it is you have tried to do, but you CAN NOT migrate files to an older version of the engine, only an equivalent or newer. This is because the newer versions may include processes or additional code that the older versions do not, and this is something seen across all forms of programming, such as not being able to use a game save in your favorite game if you try to load it with an older version.

I do hate saying this- but backups are important, for this reason among many others. I do not suggest anyone attempt anything over a 10-hour project without space for minimum of three backups. :frowning:

If it seems that it is impossible to migrate projects in this way, what happens is that it is the only way to try to recover the project, if I make a copy and upgrade the project to aunreal 5 the project works without problems, the problem is that I do not want to use unreal 5 and I thought if there was a chance to migrate the entire project again to version 4.7, the error keeps appearing continuously and I can not do anything

My goodness I just found the root of the problem, I will now explain why this happened so that no one else does. AB’s are dangerous if you leave loose nodes unresolved, and in my project I had a LOT of these nodes that were not connected to anything. The project would not open under any circumstances no matter what I did, but it seemed that in the loading screen when the name of the map of my project appeared is when it crashed, I decided to delete the map from the files and the project opened but… when doing anything that was related to my AB it crashed the editor throwing the same error. So I decided to delete the AB I was working with, so my character when I opened the project would be without it (the real root of the problem), after that I added my AB file back to the project from the files so in the editor it comes out automatically and I could edit the AB so that there was no loose node that generated constant errors and the project came back to life without problems, o god, almost 6 hours of pure uncertainty.

Now I have just made the most satisfying backup of my life :0

btw I don’t know how to put that the problem is solved, if someone can tell me how I can close the discussion and mark my answer as the solution I’d appreciate it ^^

I’m glad you figured it out.

Actually, it makes sense to go into the files BEFORE opening Unreal and delete the problem cause.

Also, if you want to mark a question as SOLVED, you mark the solution tab:
