I’d like to share some news about my latest plugin — it really speeds up the transfer of assets and materials between Blender, Unreal Engine, and Substance Painter.
It’s been in development for a few months, and I think it’s now polished enough to serve as a useful tool for anyone working across these programs.
BlendSync transfers meshes, materials, automatically creates material instances in Unreal, helps organize the Outliner, and even imports lights and cameras (though not camera animations yet).
It also allows you to import meshes with Unreal materials back into Blender — and you can send your meshes and materials from Blender to Substance Painter for further editing. And, of course, bring them back again.
Currently, it supports static meshes, cameras, lights, and materials.
In the future, I plan to extend it to 3ds Max and possibly a few other programs.

Of course, there are some limitations: BlendSync prioritizes correct mesh placement in the scene, so the pivots of imported objects are currently centered. I’m working on making it possible to transfer them 1:1 between Blender and Unreal.
There are also some challenges with light unit conversion, since Blender uses its own rather complex system — but all values are transferred proportionally, and the colors and positions of lights match Blender exactly.
If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear your feedback ![]()
The plugin is available now on Superhive, and will probably appear on FAB in the future:
