I can't vertex paint textures onto my mesh, instead it just paints the overall colour of the texture. Anyway to fix this?

Tried multiple tutorials, no luck, always the same. If someone could show me the absolute basics of being able to mix 2 textures together, I’d be most grateful.

So I would check out the tutorial video done by Tech Art Aid.

He does a great job of walking you through from the very beginning and explains things in detail along the way. What you want to make sure is that you are painting in the correct channels, and that you have a somewhat high vertex count mesh. This allows for greater detail as you are painting on individual verts to blend the textures.
