I have tried to use UE5 for a while now but when I launch it, nothing happens. I went through and searched all of the folders and found the launcher, but when I try to launch it it tells me this 'Game files required to initialize the global shader library are missing from:
/Users/Shared/Epic Games/UE_5.1/Engine/Content/
Please make sure the game is installed correctly.’ - I have an M1 Pro Mac 32GB ram if this makes any difference. Any help would be appreciated
Is this your initial install of the launcher? Have you tried verifying your files? If not, navigate to your UE5 install in your library in the launcher, press the dropdown arrow, then press verify.
Yeah I have tried installing it multiple times:
I have tried to verify it and nothing happens
I’ve also gone through and cleared the cache and previous logs
And I have also tried installing it on another user on my laptop and the same problem still happens
Hmm, okay. This may be something going wrong either with DX12 or SM6. To test that, open your project folder and navigate to your config folder → DefaultEngine.ini. Once open, find [/Script/WindowsTargetPlatform.WindowsTargetSettings] and make sure it matches the following image. You will need to delete the +…SM6 line and change 12 to 11.
This will set your project to Shader Model 5 and directX 11.
These are the folders that come up when I go into my config folder, should I be changing all of the ones that have come up in the search? - Im unsure if I should have any other folders because I have never been able to launch it or use the application. @Quetzalcodename
You definitely should not have that many DefaultEngine.ini files in your project. While I am not 100% knowledgeable of what the mac files will look like as I use windows, your config folder should look more like this:
Just to double check, you have the most recent version of your OS installed and you are installing from the Epic Games launcher correct? Have you tried manually deleting the folder and attempting to recreate the project?
Yeah, I even just tried to re-download the software and I don’t have a folder for unreal projects, I believe this may be due to me not being able to ever launch it and create a project in the first place?
@Quetzalcodename
yeah, so this is my first time ever using unreal engine. I installed it onto my laptop and it won’t launch at all. So I’ve never even made it on
Seems like this is an odd error. Have you tried reinstalling the launcher itself to see if the launcher just is not installing it correctly because of an error? Here are a few more resource that may help as well:
(In case this is a software/driver issue)
And you are trying to open directly from the launcher right?
@Quetzalcodename Hello, yeah I have tried launching straight from the launcher and I have deleted the launcher and redownloaded it. I will check the requirements again. It should be up to date though as the laptop I use is quite new
I have been trying for days to find the “Install” button or the “library” on the Unreal website. It never appears as it does in the unreal 5 install video. anybody?
Just to double check, does this only happen with 5.1? Have you tried installing 5.0 or 4.27?
In either case, you may need to report this bug so Epic can correct it if possible, just remember to check the “Unreal Engine Issues” link before doing so to make sure your problem is not listed there already:
So did anyone find a solution for this? Because I have the same problem. Ive got an 2021 M1 Max MacBook Pro and just downloaded Unreal 5.3.2 - it bounces at the bottom but after a while it disappears and nothing happens. No window, no notification, nothing.
I am in the same situation. I tried with 5.4.1, the installation is complete and verified, but when I click the Launch button, nothing happens.
I am able to use 5.1.1 without problems.
I create assets for the marketplace, so I need to try them in newer versions to make sure they are compatible, but I am stuck in 5.1.1
