Additional Notes
After several tests, deinstallations, manual cleaning, installations and so on, I created a Test Account and with this Test Account all is working fine.
At the moment I think my FAB Library is to big.
When I am trying to install an Engine Version, the “Refresh the Fab items” Button, right of “Fab Library” turns gray for about 3 Minutes and that’s all.
I think all my Assets are shown in the Library. Epic Games Launcher and FAB Website. I own approximately 3760 Assets.
With the Test Account I installed some Engine Versions, logged back in my Main Account and tried to create a new project.
The Button “Refresh the Fab items” turns gray and after 3 minutes the new projects starts.
So far so good, but when I try to load an Asset via the Fab Plugin, only an empty Library is displayed.
Thank you for sharing such detailed information about your situation! It sounds like you’ve done quite a bit of troubleshooting already—great work on narrowing things down.
From your description, it seems like the size of your Fab Library (with over 3760 assets!) might indeed be overwhelming the Epic Games Launcher or the Fab Plugin. This can occasionally happen when the database of assets is very large, as it increases the time needed to sync and load everything.
Here are a few suggestions you can try to improve the experience:
Clear Cached Data in the Launcher
Sometimes, cached data from the Epic Games Launcher can cause delays or issues. You can clear the cache by:
Closing the launcher.
Navigating to the folder: C:\Users[YourUsername]\AppData\Local\EpicGamesLauncher\Saved\webcache.
Deleting the contents of the webcache folder.
Relaunching the Epic Games Launcher and logging back in.
Break Down Your Asset Library (if possible)
If you have assets that are rarely used, consider categorizing them into folders or tags and hiding those you don’t need frequently. Unfortunately, there isn’t a built-in way to split the library, but organizing your assets in your Epic Games account may reduce the strain during sync.
Manually Import Specific Assets
Instead of relying solely on the Fab Plugin, you could manually download and import specific assets into your project. This could bypass the issue of the plugin showing an empty library.
Test Network Settings
A large library might also increase the dependency on your internet connection. Ensure there are no bandwidth limitations or firewall rules that might affect the Fab Plugin’s ability to sync correctly.
Best,
