HUD not displaying crosshairs or widgets

I made a duplicate of the FPS template HIS, renamed it, and defaulted it in world settings. I added a simple create widget blueprint on key press using owning player controller as my reference and added to viewport. The original nodes for displaying crosshairs are still present as well. My widget and crosshairs aren’t displaying and using print strings I’ve uncovered that neither events are firing. Using a print string and referencing the player controller HUD display name from my character BP I get “HUD” as my return as if it’s firing the HUD display instead of my created HUD. I’ll have to include pictures later if needed, currently away from my computer. Thanks in advance.
