How would you structure inventory management in Unreal Engine for a POS application?

If I want to make a POS system using Unreal Engine, how should I manage products and their stock?

Hi There,

Be more descriptive we help.

Try to explain overall system that you want to nail down. Even it can be something big we point out the right tutorials for you.

First, you would probably want to use the SQLite plugin, since the standard native datatables can be a bit of a pain to update. The trick there though is the core SQLite plugin is mostly intended for c++ projects. And if you’re working in c++, it would probably better just to make a standalone c++ app using a regular OS api to draw the interface. Granted, there are other plugins that expose more SQLite functionality to blueprints, though I wouldn’t know where to start on those.

In either case a PoS/inventory system is mostly just a matter of inserting a row when a new sku is added, +1’ing the row for each unit added to stock and -1’ing when it’s sold. Trying to do this in UMG sounds like an absolute nightmare tho, so, again, I’d recommend just making a standalone app. Not only would it be less of a nightmare to make, but the PoS terminal wouldn’t be using tons of cpu/ram loading 3D/game-related sub-systems. Unless of course you want to make it fun, like some sort of self-checkout with a minigame on it.

Thanks man this helps me
