I’m trying to make a small scale CRPG in the style of Disco Elysium but I’m pretty new to UE5 and I don’t really know how to create a dialogue system for it. If you have any advice or tutorials that I might have missed while looking for them, it would be most appreciated if you shared them. What I’m looking for is a way to create a complex and large dialogue tree, which is presented as scrolling text in a box (Basically what’s done in Disco Elysium), but I don’t really know where to start.
Note: Also yes I know that the project is way to ambitious for a first proper attempt at making a game, but I’d at least try to make the basic mechanics before I give up on the project. Also if I’m using the forum incorrectly please inform me, I’ve only posted on here once or twice before and that was a while back.
Hey there @EverExpandingDev! Welcome back to the community! When you’re working towards a complex topic, it’s usually good to start at the simplest form of the idea and then iterate on it.
This system in this video isn’t the most scalable, but it’s a basic start to get a simplified dialogue system going and you can expand it once you have a better grasp on the engine:
