How would one achieve a Physics based door with arm animation?

I was wondering how one would achieve a physics based door, sort of like Amnesia The dark descent.
I wanted to make something in the first person view where you can open a door with your mouse along with a hand animation.
Could I do something with sockets? Something like connecting the wrist bone with the door knob when the mouse button is being clicked, and disconnecting it when released.
