How to use Plant Models in Unreal??

There’s so many plant models online from sources like Globe Plants, Maxtree etc. However, the leaves and flowers have all been modelled as rectangular planes w. opacity maps. And this, unfortunately, creates a major translucency bottleneck in unreal.

So are all these plant models simply unusable at scale in unreal? Or is there a script that can magically use the opacity map to cut the leaf/flower planes and make them compatible with nanite?

Alternatively, perhaps there’s a way of tweaking the imported leaf/flower materials so that they properly function as opacity maps without leaving a translucent border as below…

Any help greatly appreciated,

Adam

You’ll want to use the two sided foliage shading model for leaves.

Hi Zac, thanks for this. It’s helped to remove the border but the diffuse colour of the flowers are now blown out - as in preview on image left below. Did a quick search and people saying to reduce specular. So removed all reflections and still blown out. Any idea why?

Then when I switch shading model back to thin translucent correct colour shows:
