I have been running into issues using a physics ball, as a trigger, to open a door, and change the material instance, however, I have been able to use my own character using a similar method with a treasure chest. I Have 1 Static mesh with 1 material Instance, 1 static mesh with 2 material instances, and 1 skeletal mesh with 1 material instance.
