How to "update All MetaHumans to be UE5 MetaHumans"?

I created 14 metahumans in my UE4 project and then upgraded the project to UE5.1. One of the Metahumans had shoes and I needed them to have bare feet, which I know is not possible for some reason, but I thought if I chose Flip Flops, I could remove the flipflops afterwards… so I updated that character, and then imported them to my project.

It was here that I got a giant warning dialog listing all of my MetaHumans and stating that “these are incompatible with UE5 MetaHumans and may result in some errors when they are included in the same project. We highly recommend that you update all MetaHumans to be UE5 MetaHumans.” It then showed me a dialog that told me to copy the files from one folder “To…” another, but the dialog was too small and the “To…” field was not visible. I wasn’t able to resize the dialog and therefore I have no way to know where to copy the files to.

If someone can tell me how to “update all MetaHumans to UE5 MetaHumans”… (which I cannot find via Google - searching that string shows tens of pages about UE5 MetaHumans and none of them resolve this issue, and when I search for it explicitly by wrapping the sentence in quotes, I get zero results from Google)… it would be great.

Thanks!

Edit I attempted to create a new UE 5.1 project and migrate my level to that project, hoping I could add the metahumans to that project separately, but Unreal Editor crashes during the migration process, so this is not an option.

Further: The reason I ask is because it says "To continue importing this MetaHuman, please close the project and copy the following files from:

C://{path}

To:

And that’s it. It doesn’t show me what files to copy nor where to coy them to, because the window is too small, and I can’t resize it and there is no scroll bar to allow me to scroll the missing information into view.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Hi, Did anyone manage to find out how to do this? Ive hit the same issue

@reignmullins I did not find a solution. I had to work around the issue which meant redoing plenty of work.

I created a new project from scratch, added my new metahumans to it, then migrated all of the necessary content from my old project to the new one. Migrate crashes, but after the first crash, if I migrate a level again and select “No to all” when asked to overwrite, I can get further each time, until eventually, I get it all.

Unfortunately, I could not migrate files that contained the old metahumans or it would migrate the old metahumans with it, overwriting the new ones. So I had to manually remove them from those levels, then add the new ones after migration… which means I couldn’t migrate any of my sequences. I had to recreate them all.

Not ideal, but hope that helps!
