How to set the grid to be im cm?

Hi,

new to UE5 and learning the ropes. I read that Unreal uses metric system and cm for the units. however threre seems to be some kind of discrepancy between the unit scale and grid size. The scale thingy shows me 10cm (or 1m) but the grid at that point is about 12,5 squares in size. Why?

It depends what you’ve got the snapping set on

Hmm, I still dont get it. Grid is set to 10, but 1 meter is still a different size than the grid.

I don’t get how you’re doing that

Me neither, thats the problem ^^.
Its a fresh install of UE5.2

I can just make a fresh template project

the go to front view

aaaaan… its grid and the measuring thing are contradicting each other…

(had to split this into 3 posts, because I#m not allowed to post 3 pictures in one post as a new user…)

Have you set your windows user interface scale to something other than default?

Yes, I just checked

I‘m a new user. I dont touch any settings that I dont know.
The only thing i did in the project settings is to limit the framerate to 60, so my gpu fans dont suck in my cats.

Oooh, you mean windows itself? I have an ultrawide monitor so the text/item scaling could be set to 125%-150%. Why would it affect the UI in UE though?

Yes, I tried it

That’s why it’s 25% out…

eyeroll-rpm increases

That sounds like a … uh… feature. ^^

Thanks for your help!
At least I know now why it happens.
Now I just need to figure out if I trust the grid or the “measuring line/overlay” to scale my assets. XD

Unrelated to your problem, but I couldn’t not point out that there are 100cm in a meter

Well yes, I am very aware. XD

When I said “it shows me 10cm or 1m” I didn’t mean at the same time.
It was just a reference to the display text on the yard stick.
