How to save project and reopen as you left it?

Hello,

I am new to UE4 and I noticed as I go through tutorials and add actors and events that they disappear from the main viewport when I reopen the save all project?

Is there a way to save all and reopen the project, where all is still there in the viewport and actors with events are not lost?

Unclear below:

  1. I am not sure how to save as I build my project and progress with added actors and events?

Thanks!

On ProjectSettings > MapsAndModes > you can set what map the editor starts on. Just choose the one you worked on and saved to the content browser.

Pretty sure you’re just getting a new map instad of the map you were working on. As the default map to start the editor on is a new default map.

If you change something, when you close editor it should prompt you if you want to save if something is not saved, do you got any of that? It’s kind of weird it doesn’t saves you state

Hi,

Yes I get the option to save map. I did not realize that saving the level and reopening it is how I get back to the saved work in the viewport. Instead I thought simply saving the project would reopen with latest changes. Now I see that it’s the level that needs to be saved in the project if I want to keep what I was working on.
Thanks for your response!

Hi,

Thanks! This is perfect way for me to save my future template now that I am past knowing that it’s the level in the project that needs to be saved if I want to retrieve the updated work in viewport.

also have a look under editor preferences good stuff under the saving and loading part

so, was that it then? Make sure to accept the answer so this shows as resolver.

let me know if you have any doubts still.

Hi, I’m having the same issue; unable to reopen the project as I saved it. Have tried “save all” and “save current level” upon closing, but when I reopen the project the outliner is back to its original state. This is what it looks before closing:

And after reopening:

Is it possible to save the outliner settings?

Thanks!
