Hello, i did the “Your First Hour in UEFN” and in the skeletal animation section, i experimented on my own for a few hours.
Then I saved my level sequence as an animation sequence and would now like to continue working on it.
Opening the animation sequence and selecting “edit in sequencer” does not bring me to the point where I have a mannequin that is linked and where I can edit.
i made a new mannequin with a new level sequence and choose edit with fk control rig so everthing is setup like in the guide but i did not manage to bring my old animation sequence in there.
So my question is how do I link an animation sequence to a mannequin to work on it again?
I hope it makes sense and I’m probably just lost
Thanks!

I am bumping this as it is the most recent and I could not find an answer anywhere else but finally figured it out with the help from this video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F47k9QFr7Gg]
Here are the steps I did to be able to create my animation, edit it, save it, close it, and reopen for editing.
Create New Animation
- Drag your Control Rig into the scene and open sequencer
- If no controls show, in the top left of the main Unreal window set it from ‘Selection Mode’ to ‘Animation Mode’
- Key your controls in the sequencer
- Press the save button in the sequencer window to save out a ‘Level Sequence’ tied to it that default save to your ‘Content’ folder.
- Now save your actual animation out by selecting the top object in your ‘Sequencer’ window that would be your Control Rig. Right click it and ‘Create Linked Animation Sequence’
Reopening Linked Animation to Edit
- Double click your Animation Sequence that you saved out (the linked one)
- In the top right where you can click to change what tied asset you want to open (Skeleton/Skinned Mesh/Animations) to the left of that is a chevron (>>)
- Click that then ‘Edit in Sequencer > Open Level Sequence’
This has been working for me and sets the Control Rig in the scene to then have that animation with your supplied keys loaded. I have seen others use the ‘Bake to Control Rig’ option but that just creates extra keyframes and doesn’t have your original keys.
Side tip. When editing an animation in the sequencer window, if it was a linked animation and you click save, it will then update your Animation Sequence file tied to it without having to re-export.
