How to play particles stepped?

I am creating a film in Unreal with stepped stop-motion-like animation. I would like to have particles system play in the same style.

By default, particle systems from Cascade play every frame to create smooth particle animation.

Is it possible to make them only update every second/third/fourth frame?

Nope, sorry! We ended up keyframe animating geometry instead. But if you find a method for doing it with particles, please do post it in this thread!
