How to optimize the distance between control points.

I am working on a model of a very large solar power plant.

The very clean rectangular panels have caused a great deal of mismatching.

So I prevented mismatching by creating control points.

However, I would like to reduce the number of control points to a minimum to shorten the working time.

Do you have any ideas that can be helpful when determining the distance and direction of two control points?

Hi,

have you had an unsuccessful alignment with the control points you have? 3 points nicely spread out should bring the main parts together as 3 will create scale and orientation, then you can have another look for misalignments and add more control points where needed. I understand it’s too late now, but ground control points are great for projects like this.

Thanks for the reply.
My question is a little different.

I wanted to know if there is a useful way to think about determining the distance and direction of where to set a new control point.

Is the only way to do this is to find by eye where the model is broken or doubled up, and set a control point at that location?
