How to optimize my laptop for Unreal Engine game development?

I recently learned 3D modeling in preparation for my indie game development. Now I want to move on and learn to work with Unreal engine. So far, I have tried to mess with the FPS template available in the engine and added a flashlight to my gun. Sometimes I get smashed by the blue screen of death which made me think I should tweak my settings first. I’ve already set my scalability settings to low but I want to make sure what else I should look for so I will not get interrupted by BSODs. Do you have any suggestions on what settings I should tweak?

This is my Laptop specs:

  • Intel(R) Core™ i5-11300H @ 3.10GHz
  • 16 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
  • Intel Iris Xe Graphics (Built-in GPU)

It looks like a pretty meaty laptop, apart from possibly the CPU.

Have you looked up the error code you get with BSOD?

Also, you might want to monitor your CPU core temp, maybe you need a cooler ( laptop cooler ).

Every major windows update
go and update your nvidia drivers
always start with a fresh driver update.

I’ve had to reinstall mine at least 4 times this last year
windows hoops them every now and then.
I suggest adding an extra m2 ssd if it will take one.
