I know that working with masks is outdated, but I’m currently still using RC1.5.1 and I’d like to follow the correct workflow. By using a mask, I want to exclude parts of the photo shoot from the geometry of the final model reconstruction. This involves merging the top and bottom photo inputs of an asymmetrical model. Merging the model is only possible using control points, but this results in shifts in the final reconstruction. I suspect this is due to the large overlap due to shifted parts of the object in the fotos. I do want all the photos to be used in the alignment, so that corresponding control points can be placed in both photo inputs.
However, in the final reconstruction, I want to omit parts of the overlapping geometry, as excessive overlap causes distortions in the final model.
I have now applied a mask to the bottom, which is almost correct, and a mask to the top, minimizing the overlap as much as possible with the masks. In theory, this should keep the base intact and allow only the top section to connect to it with minimal overlap. Hence, the lowest possible distortion.
Applying the mask works, merging works in alignment, but how do I get the above to work in the reconstruction?
