How to make VR with quest 2 smooth?

Hi,

Since twinmotion 2022 VR mode with my oculus quest 2 is laggy.

In directX12 mode it is even not usable, because you will be sick off the lag. So I have to switch to X11 to use VR. But then still I have to put the settings all to low settings to have a smooth experience. The first 15 seconds there is some stuttering but then after it is more smooth. If I put the settings on medium, the same experience but after 5 a 10 minutes twinmotion shuts down because of the video memory.

What can I do to improve this? In 2021 I had no problems with the same setup in higher settings.

I use the original Oculus Link cable. And have a laptop with Processor i7-11370H, and a RTX3070 videocard and 16GB of RAM. So that should not be so bad.

I am an architect who uses twinmotion for creating visuals and VR enviroments for my clients. My models are private single homes, medium size imported from revit and then decorated with the furniture of twinmotion. See picture in attachtment.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Bram

Hello ,

Thank you for posting in the community and for the feedback. We are aware of issues with DirectX 12 and are working on resolving them in a future release of Twinmotion.

The details on the experience is reproducible on my end as well with an Oculus Quest 2. Please check that you have VR Dynamic Quality Off as this helps improve the performance. Also make sure your GPU and VR headset are all updated. In the Oculus application also please confirm that OpenXR Runtime is set as the active default as Oculus.

In terms of the video memory issue do you have 64GB of RAM and if not you may need to increase it to avoid this problem as RAM and VRAM usage are quite heavy for VR. Please reference the System requirements High-end requirements for further info: https://twinmotionhelp.epicgames.com/s/article/Twinmotion-System-Requirements

We would need to investigate further if you have 64GB of RAM and still experiencing this and you could submit a bug with your Twinmotion scene so we can best troubleshoot this problem. Here is the link to submit a bug: https://twinmotionhelp.epicgames.com/s/case-community-page

Hello Vincent,

Thank you for your reply. I will check all your option this week. I know dynamic quality is turned on. So that is already one thing I can change!

I will let you know what helped and what not.

Kind regards,

Bram

Hi Vincent,

Thanks! This helps already a lot! Especially the VR Dynamic quality checked off. It runs nice again. I do not have 64GB of RAM, so that is something I will look into to make it even better :)

Kind regards,

Bram

Hi Vincent,

I upgraded my RAM to the maximum my laptop can handle 40GB and it works now even better :) So, this would be my tip for everyone with the same problem. Upgrade your RAM! 16GB is for most of my project not enough.

Kind regards,

Bram

Hello ,

I hope all is well and wanted to know if you were able to get your scene working better and if not did you submit a bug report?

Kind regards,

Vincent B.

Hi ,

Glad to hear increasing the RAM helped the performance for your VR scenes.
