How to make my 3D object to Skeletal Mesh type?

I have 3D object…

For example…
A ROOT (FBX file)

i want this ROOT replacing ThirdPersonCharacter Mesh…

but when i wan to change it, on mesh list, i can’t find my Root object…

How i can make my root.fbx to Skeletal Mesh type? so i can’t replace ThirdPersonCharacter into my Root.fbx???
