How to make doors close automatically correctly?

I am having some issues with my blueprints and getting the final touches. I have run into a few small issues and I am hoping for some knowledge.

Issues I am currently facing:

  1. Having the doors shut after I open them ( I have 2 moving parts for the doors, one goes up and one goes down. I was able to get one part of the door to go back but could only connect one part of the door at a time.

I also made an additional box collision that is using the opposite timeline which works, the doors close when I hit the box collision, issue with this that if I hit the box collision before I go to open the door (I have it setup to open when I enter a passcode.)

Im not sure if there is a way to set the collision to trigger only after the doors are currently open or if there is another action I am unaware of.

  1. The other issue I am having is once I open the door and they close and I go to open them again they open really fast like it skips the timeline and no longer has the smooth motion.

Im hoping there is a way I can use both reverse options on the timeline under Door Functions with the end overlap and get rid of the door close area of code all together.

Thank you!

I managed to add a delay to my door open ending and connect it to the door close section at the play node.

I just have the issue now where I go to open the door again it just opens immediately not smooth when using the timeline.

Hey @oakenD89!

Sounds like your just playing your timeline from where it left off, which would be at the end. Instead, have you tried just reversing your main timeline once you end overlap/close the door and using a flip flop once the timeline is finished to establish if the door can close again. Check out this example of what that might look like (This may need tweaking to ensure the door actually closes depending on timing):

Hey @Quetzalcodename, thanks for lending me a hand. I tried messing around with it this morning but haven’t had much luck, fairly new to blueprints.

I connected the similar nodes like the example you provided. I add the flip flop and set to both timelines finished nodes. I tried adding the event actors on them as well as the on component overlaps.

With all the different options I tried it would either not work at all, open one door and not the other.

Here is the tutorial I used, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PCp21x2pCI

Hey @oakenD89,

Would you mind sharing the alterations you made to your blueprints to your blueprints so we can get an idea of what you did?

Alternatively, you did mention you got everything working in your current setup except reopening your door. Have you tried using “Play from Start” instead of “Play” for your timelines to make sure that you are not playing your timeline from the very end when trying to reopen?

Here was the finished part in the doors working properly.

Play from start did fix the doors slamming, they was just picking up where they left off. Then I added do once nodes.

Hey @oakenD89!

That’s great! To confirm, the above was the solution you needed?

Yes it is
