How to make a good stylized alembic hair and don't pay for it too much?

Hello. I’m trying to give alembic hair to my character and want to make it more stylized. For easier example I decided to try something like afro for the beginning. Unfortunately, I faced two problems: hair is looking very rare and, of course, ugly:

I think this problem can be fixed by adding much more strands in Blender but I’ll pay for that with performance. The second problem - it’s just usual hair like in real life. What if I want to get hairs like in anime or overwatch (wow, I didn’t thought it’s so hard to find not NSFW picture from it):

I think it’s better for performance and looks good, but the only way I know how to make alembic hair is to use particle system in Blender where I can’t create something similar to pictures. I tried to google it and didn’t found any related information, only with manual animation of hairs. Can somebody give me advice? I’m sure there is a good way, which is so obvious that nobody is mentioning it.

the term for the stylized hair assets is “hair cards”, or single mesh hair; particle hair is what’s used in grooms

I wanted to use grooms just because it’s using simulation by default. Can I do it with hair cards?

yes, hair cards support physics; they should work with groom solvers too provided they’re set up right. unfortunately i don’t have a resource for you though. you can also use cloth paint to simulate physics on singlemesh hair.

Well, at least, I have a direction now. Thank you!
