How to Lock Z axis in 3D side scroller?

Hello - is there a way to be able to lock the Z axis Until the character gets up or down to another platform that is towards the top of the screen?

In the Snes Aladdin - it stays stationary in the Z axis when you are on the ground - as soon as you jump on a platform - that is when the camera starts to follow the character in the Z direction

it would be really helpful to have this for things like climbing ladders and such

I just don’t want to have the character jump while on the ground and have the camera constantly bounce up and down…

If anyone could help explain how I could blueprint that - i’d greatly appreciate it.
