Hello, Please help, I modeled a medieval house consists of many parts (roof, windows, doors, etc.), when imported into the unreal engine 4, all combined, and I can not impose a material into separate parts, how to import the model that all is not Combined and I could apply materials to different parts and to position the parts are preserved.
Two options.
First - apply different materials to the elements in the modeling program before you export it.
They don’t have to look anything like what you want them to end up being in the game - just as long as they are different “materials.”
Second - export each piece separately. Windows, Doors, etc.
And apply materials to each inside UE4 - and then merge them into a single mesh inside the engine (Windows → Developer Tools → Merge Actors)
.
If you say which modeling software you’re using, I might be able to explain how to assign independent materials to each element.
I haven’t used Max in a while, but it should be much the same as in Maya.
This video explains how to select areas to assign a material to.
3Ds Max How To Apply Material To Face
Don’t worry about what the material is - just make sure there is a distinct material for each material you will have in UE4.
Once you import it you can change the materials as you like.
thank you
I use 3ds max
