How to import character rig and controls from Maya to Unreal?

As it says in the topic, I would like to know if there is a way to import both the character rig and its controls (I use Nurbs to create controls for different parts of the rig) or what would be the best way to import the character and rig so that I can control it?

I do know that Autodesk Maya has a “send to Unreal” option, but it hasn’t worked in the past. The last time I imported anything from Maya into Unreal it was just the character in whatever pose I placed it. I would like to be able to move the rig and character around to create a Machinima animation in Unreal.
