How to import Blender animation for UE 5 cinematic project? (to play in sync with camera sequence)

Hi, I have watched several tutorials that show how to import a Blender animation to UE 5. They involve export FBX from Blender, importing in UE, placing the sequence object into scene, then hitting the game play button to see the animation.

I have done that, and can indeed get an animation into UE 5 in that manner.

In my case, I am not using UE for a game. I am using it for film production. I have created a scene in UE 5. I also have a cine camera actor. I want to place the character at some place in the scene, and have it play at some point in time in relation to the camera animation playback. That is, when I hit play in camera sequencer, I need to see the character animation.

Can’t seem to find tutorials dealing with my use case.

Anyone have ideas or can point me somewhere?

thanks

from what i understand you need to create a shot in your sequence

then click into it
use the intraged camera or import yours with the +track button
then created a subsequence named anim light etc
click into it
then import your skeletal mesh there should be a animation channel under click on the plus in this channel and add your animation in it and it should be good

Ok, that worked - thanks!

I guess a follon on question (will make separate post) is how to create a camera that mimics first person walking from point A to point B? So imagine scene, and you want camera to move from point A to point B, but to have view of person walking, including the actual movements of the person’s body. In this case it isn’t an actor I need to be seen in a scene, just need camera attached to his head, and have camera walk along from some point in scene to other.

I figure there must be some super slick way to do this?

thanks!

you can record “gameplay” like a character walking in first person with controlling it like in a game and then using this in your sequencer this can be achieved by the take recorder
