How to imitate canyon wall layers with materials? (Different colors based on height)

This video showcases this one specific effect for a few seconds. They move up and down the canyon object and the “layers” of color, for lack of a better word, seem to stay in the same place. It’s like a world-height-based mask. I’ve opened the UE5 project myself and those assets all share something that gives them those layers based on their world height, but I can’t exactly figure it out.

I want to imitate this in UE4 but it’s beyond my knowledge to know where to start. I’ll try digging into the UE5 project myself again, but any help is appreciated.

I’m not sure but i think they are using the same technique explained in this quixel live stream: Create World of Warcraft in UE4: Extended Breakdown - YouTube
Basically a mix between the material of the cliff asset and a world aligned texture (the “layers” of color you mentioned).
