How to go about creating a animation for a model?

Currently right now I have a basic static model that looks like this in-game after learning how much I hate how Blender default scales everything to literally a 0.01 scale of the default model. So I got the model working and now how would I go about creating a animation of lets say the bear trap closing?

I’ve also wouldn’t mind if people who are experienced in Maya 2015 using the UE4’s rigging kit for it chimed in and if it’s really worth using and would be easy to get into. (Currently just registered and got a 3yr Subscription for being a student for it)

i would use two bones for the animation and make the static mesh to a skeletalmesh with this bones, then you could make your animation and fire here a a event of your choice.
