How to get rid of grass on top of grass landscape?

As the question states, I would like to get rid of the grass blades on top of the grass landscape, but I’m unsure how to do so. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know

Paint it. I did a whole tutorial on the subject of putting in a river and texturing it. The texturing part starts around the 7 minute mark:

I know you can paint it, but you can only paint it in a different landscape. What I was looking for is “flattening the grass”, so that there are no grass blades, just the basic green grass texture
