Hi, I’m on UE 5.8 using the Mover component (not CharacterMovementComponent) for my characters.
What I set up:
- A two-character execution (attacker + victim) using a Contextual Animation scene asset, with a montage for each role.
- Two warp targets added to the scene (motion warping notify windows in the montages).
- My BP only starts the Contextual Anim scene. I have no custom warp logic.
The problem:
- Warping doesn’t work. The characters don’t move into position, and the distance between them isn’t kept consistent during the execution, unlike when I use the same setup with a CMC character.
- My guess is that the montage root motion isn’t being consumed by Mover, and/or the Contextual Anim scene actor component isn’t setting the warp targets because my pawns aren’t [ACharacter / plain Pawn: fill in].
What I found so far:
- A forum thread said motion warping with Mover wasn’t supported yet and that Contextual Anim only sets warp targets on ACharacter.
- The docs now list UMotionWarpingMoverAdapter and an AnimRootMotion layered move with warp target support, so it looks like support was added.
Questions:
- Is Contextual Animation officially supported with Mover in 5.8? If so, what setup is needed (adapter on the Motion Warping component, Mover montage playback, etc.)?
- Should the montages be played through the Mover root motion layered move (like Play Mover Montage) instead of the normal montage path that Contextual Anim uses?
- If it’s not supported yet, what’s the recommended way to keep two characters aligned during a synced execution with Mover?
