how to fix Unhandled Exception: 0x80000003 CRASH!?

Im getting this crash Unhandled Exception: 0x80000003 when I try to open UE 5.7.0 and 5.7.1 after a fresh install on my new PC. BTW UE 5.6.1 open fine and doesn’t crash.

What should I do?

Hello there @Alxff!

That’s a strange error you got there, can’t seem to find anything in the community related to a crash with component “npu_d3d12_umd”. It clearly suggest an issue with DX12, but such problem would also affect UE 5.6. Same with drivers or a GPU conflict.

Considering that 5.7 was released three weeks ago, it could be a very specific and obscure interaction with your particular setup. I would suggest sticking with 5.6 until a further patch or hotfix is deployed for the latest engine version.

Have the exact same problem - brand new PC, RTX5090, Win 11 Pro all drivers up to date incl. BIOS - also have a brand new laptop RTX5080, Win 11 Home, all drivers UTD - no problems there, UE 5.7 ok on this machine - both Intel I9 Ultra 285, 64Gb RAM - go figure, UE 5.6 works fine on both. Reports sent from crashing PC.

I found a solution to my problem.

I went to “Settings - System - Display - Advanced graphics settings” and turned “Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling” to OFF.

Not sure what impact this makes on my system yet, but UE 7.1 now starts up w/o issues.
