How to erase grass/flowers made from a layer in landscape mode

Hello!
I’ve just create a layer that can spawn grass or flowers in a random way but now I can’t seem to be able to erase them unless i press undo. It’s not foliage so remove foliage doesn’t seem to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dominic

Hi @UberPz,

If you are referring to the grass maps that are available in landscape materials, there is no way to have direct control over the foliage placement. You can, however, use noise masks within your landscape material to control their placement. If you would like to, you can create a custom texture if you want the same effect as painting in the foliage, though this is quite extra.

If you’re running into the issue of these grass masks spawning into buildings or other handplaced assets, the usual method for erasing them is to create a landscape layer that contains the same textures as your grass map layer just without the grass, and manually paint that landscape layer in where you do not want the auto-generated grass.

This tutorial does a great job of going over the different methods in detail:

Thanks a lot!!! Very helpful!

Just create dedicated no-paint layers for the different grasses.

Then you can mix them in the material like you would anything else.

Specificslly for removal, you make a grass layer with no meshes. Paint that on and the area will always not have meshes.

Geberally speaking you want to avoid having grash meshe and grass layer use the same landscape layer - at least until you get into optimization.
At that point you’d know better than to use landscapes anyways.
