Hello, I’m creating a mecha character that can swap parts, allowing it to switch between bipedal legs, spider legs, wheels, and more.
The way I switch parts is that every part is a blueprint actor, and I attach them to the main character.
My problem is in how to handle the animations, because as far as I understand, I can’t use the same skeleton in the main character. because if the player chooses a set of legs with completely different bones it won’t work. So, in my main character, I only have the bones of the “cockpit” and every time I attach a part, the part has its own skeleton mesh and animations.
Is the only solution to tell the parts which animation to play in my character blueprint? Is there any way Unreal can handle that? Is my approach to modular character the correct one? because in all the videos that I see, they always use a bunch of skeletal meshes on the same character, but they always tell that they MUST have the same skeleton to work.
I’ve been stuck on this for a while now any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.
