How to destruct only part of mesh which is attached to player?

I have a question regarding chaos destruction.
Currently in my prototype the player can hold a spear. This spear is attached to the player at the correct socket on the skeleton. What I want is that half of the spear is able to break. So I made a geometry collection of it and spawn in a Field when needed in order to cause the chaos destruction to do it’s thing.

However, for it to work, physics simulation needs to be enabled on the spear, and thus, the spear gets detached from the player and the player no longer holds the part of the spear which is “not broken”.
How can I make it so that the player still holds the unbroken part of the spear?
