how to delete photos ?

is there a way to delete photos that have been imported ?

we have a project that is 3400 photos and our limit is 3500 but we arent using 1000 of them and want to replace them with new images to refine the shoot…

we dont however want to add all the control points back in…

i know you can disable photos but doing that still puts us over the 3500 photo limit - is there any way to delete them from the project ?

our manual solution is to export the control points, create a new project with the new photos, manually delete the old ones from the control point text file and then reimport the control points

but this always ends up with poor alignment on the control points !

any help would be appreciated and if not this would be a useful feature!

Hello,
this unfortunately is not possible, but you could export an image list of the ones you want to use and then, using a 3rd party explorer select the ones you want using the image list in your folder and import them back to RCs new project.

yes seems like a lot of extra work instead of just deleting the bad images in RC and re-aligning ? any reason we cant do this ?

Well the information about the images is strongly linked to the whole concept of alignment and the pointcloud also the project files. Making them delete-able could cause quite big issues. If this was simple it would already be there, maybe in the future…

deleting photos would be a big advantage in some projects. it is mainly about deleting photos that are not yet part of the alignment or a component. especially if you create components for large projects and upload a wrong photo batch and stupidly save the project. the whole work of setting control points seems to be lost then—and that can really cost time. the passive alignment time is more likely to be accepted than the manual work. so yes it definitely makes sense to be able to remove photos from the project. or am i missing some sneaky and simple workaround?

I see your point dear user, but again there already were multiple conversations about this in our company but it all comes down to this being very hard and risky to do and we would rather prevent such possibility for now. It is hard to explain as it may sound simple, but in this case it is not at all.

After importing a video sequence, I want to remove those images in the video that don’t contribute to the reconstruction instead of having RC do useless computations on them.
It is quite inconvenient and time consuming to click the delete symbol for each photo.
Why isn’t there a button to remove (or better: disable) the selection from the thumbnails view (2Ds)?

Then I’d like to physically remove those images from the project BEFORE any alignment takes place.

Dear Velikovskian, there are still the mentioned reasons above. I can add your suggestions to our feature request database.

Did anyone solve this. Someone copied and renamed a folder to a different location and now we have about 400 duplicate photos in the project. We have a lot of control points now which I do not want to lose.

For example, could I save the control points, start an new project, reimport the correct images and import the control points and ignore the images which are missing.

Or: - find the duplicate images and exclude them from processing?

Hi Graham, the workflow with control points should work.
Also, are those duplicated images in the aligned component? If not you can just export component and use it in other project.
